What it removes
Sludge, scale and coarse metal -- the settled material that turns a reservoir into a slurry before it ever reaches a filter. The unit is a vertical centrifugal separator with a scraper discharge, so it removes solids by density rather than by size, and it does so without a filter element to load up and replace. That is the whole point of the design: on a heavily contaminated system, consumable filtration is not a cost per litre, it is a maintenance task somebody has to schedule.
How it works
Oil enters a vertical bowl and spins. Solids heavier than the oil move to the wall; clean oil leaves from the centre. The separated sludge is scraped off the bowl and discharged continuously, so the bowl never fills and the separation efficiency does not decay between cleanings. Because there is no media, there is no pressure drop to watch and no element to change -- the maintenance item becomes an inspection rather than a consumable.
Where it is used
Ahead of a fine filter, on oil that is dirty in bulk: gear oil brought back from contamination to reuse standard, rolling-mill lube systems, and collected waste engine oil ahead of decolourising regeneration. The economics are straightforward -- the machine pays for itself by keeping the fine filter downstream from seeing the coarse load at all.
Options and service
Vertical or horizontal frame depending on headroom. Manual or automatic sludge discharge. Wear parts are the bowl and scraper, and they are replaceable without removing the unit from the skid.
Common questions
Does it need filter elements?
No. Solids are removed by density in a spinning bowl and the sludge is scraped off continuously, so there is no element to load up and no pressure drop to watch.
Where does it sit in the circuit?
Ahead of a fine filter, on oil that is dirty in bulk. It pays for itself by keeping the coarse load off the elements downstream.
What wears out?
The bowl and the scraper. Both are replaceable without taking the unit off the skid.
